I think you have a good point; I know that I was raised in a good way for the most part but my mental condition is still rendered unstable.
I don't know what I would have done in Chrona's situation. I want to say that I would not have killed it, but I can't be sure, especially if I was very young at the time.
I have a generally submissive personality around the people I'm most comfortable with, but I tend to roll my own way around others. No idea why. I can't define my own personality for reasons like this.

A lot of things happened in the manga that didn't in the anime, like...

Black Star CRIED.

Soul wore SHORT-SHORTS.

And Death the Kid temporarily LOST AN ARM. Seriously, he was just standing there, dripping blood, thinking, "So now my arms are asymmetrical..." But he used his BA Shinigami powers to attach it on again.
